How Peak Digital Studio worked with the Truckee Chamber of Commerce to relaunch a better job board to the Truckee-Tahoe community.

Peak Digital Studio recently collaborated with the Truckee Chamber of Commerce to redevelop the Truckee Jobs Collective (TJC) community job board. As a Truckee-based company, Chamber member, and job board user, we were thrilled to contribute to creating a new website that enhanced user experience and advanced the mission of Truckee Jobs Collective, fostering connections between local employers and job seekers.

We spoke with Jessica Penman, President and CEO of the Truckee Chamber, about the history of the Truckee Jobs Collective, its future, and their experience working with Peak Digital Studio to bring the improved vision for the job board to life!

The Truckee Jobs Collective

The Truckee Jobs Collective emerged from Truckee Tomorrow, a project run by the Truckee Chamber. The goal of Truckee Tomorrow was to engage the community to make Truckee a thriving place to live, work, and play.

Out of Truckee Tomorrow’s research, a common challenge among many local employers emerged: finding and connecting with qualified local employees. To address this issue, the TJC was born in 2017 and has been the go-to job board for the community ever since, making it easier for employers and job seekers to connect. Its impact on the community has been significant, fostering local employment and contributing to the growth of Truckee's economy.

“Truckee Jobs Collective is a great resource for locals looking for a new job or anyone considering living here full-time to see the great companies and opportunities available in Truckee-Tahoe.” - Jessica Penman.

While Truckee has the reputation of being a recreation-focused, seasonal, and service-based economy, that is far from the truth, and the postings on TJC highlight this fact. While you’ll find seasonal service industry jobs, you can also find year-round jobs that highlight the entrepreneurial spirit of the Truckee community. You can even find manufacturing jobs, such as with Trail Kitchens, building custom outdoor kitchens, and van conversion systems right on West River Street in Downtown Truckee.

“There are so many entrepreneurial businesses, and on Truckee Jobs Collective, you can find a job working for a meaningful nonprofit with the flexibility to spend time outside while being involved in the community, earning money, and supporting great programs.”

The original vision for Truckee Jobs Collective was to be much more than a job board. It was meant to be a magnet for promoting living and working in Truckee. Over time through talking to TJC users, the team realized the primary value was the job board itself. The site was overly complex and needed to be refocused on the primary value proposition. In addition, the backend powered by WordPress was slow and inundated with spam sign-ups, and the user portal wasn’t straightforward or user-friendly for employers or job seekers.

A redevelopment was needed to improve the experience for end users and job board administrators.

“After meeting with Matt and discussing our needs and budget, it was easy to go with Peak Digital Studio! He understood our vision and what the website needed to be successful.”

The Chamber approached us at Peak Digital Studio to complete the site's redevelopment. We aimed to create a more user-friendly job board and a backend admin system that made life easier for the Chamber team to manage the board, all for a lower monthly budget. This included creating a new landing page and migrating to job-board-specific software that was proven to have a better user experience, scalability, and administrative features.

The response from TJC's end-users has been overwhelmingly positive. Users appreciate the user-friendly interface and additional features.

“LOVING the new TJC functionality! I copied URL link for all of our jobs, and it made the process so much easier.” - TJC user

The Future of the Truckee Jobs Collective

With all the challenges resort towns like Truckee face, finding local employees is at the high end of the list. With the help of the new job board, TJC will continue to help alleviate this challenge and improve over time.

The Chamber is always on the lookout for new partners who are interested in helping support their work. Get in touch with them if you’re interested in joining the Chamber or helping sponsor Truckee Jobs Collective. And if you’re not yet, become a Chamber member!
