Entrepreneurs interested in starting or growing their businesses in the Tahoe region have an incredibly valuable resource created and managed by the Tahoe Prosperity Center based in Incline Village. Tahoe Inc. connects local entrepreneurs with resources, community, and information to help their businesses succeed.
The Tahoe Prosperity Center, a regional nonprofit focused on community and economic development, launched Tahoe Inc. as part of its larger Envision Tahoe Prosperity Playbook, a strategy developed from a 2022 survey of over 1,600 Tahoe Basin residents. This initiative aims to increase economic resilience in the region by helping businesses navigate challenges such as wildfires, economic downturns, and housing shortages.
Tahoe Inc. provides new business owners or someone in the ideas stage with information about funding sources, coworking spaces, business development, and more.
Some new business owners may not be ready to apply for a loan or draft a full business plan. Instead, they need a peer-to-peer support system where they can learn from others who have navigated similar challenges.
Tahoe Inc. facilitates this process by hosting entrepreneurship roundtables throughout the region. These free monthly events provide an informal setting where business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs can exchange ideas, ask questions, and offer advice. The format includes five minutes for a participant to share a challenge, followed by five minutes of group feedback. They’re not about marketing or selling a business—they’re a space for collaboration, learning, and community-building.
Tahoe Inc. roundtables take place on the second Tuesday of each month from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, rotating through various locations around the basin, including Tahoe City, Truckee, Incline Village, South Lake Tahoe, and Zephyr Cove.
Food and drinks are available at the events, and participants can continue discussions after the formal sessions end. These gatherings provide an open space for ongoing collaboration, allowing entrepreneurs to build relationships and explore new ideas in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
"What Tahoe Inc. does with these roundtables is nurture local entrepreneurs in a diverse setting. We often say we act as the wide area of the funnel for a lot of the great community organizations that we have," Derrick explained.
Tahoe Inc. recognizes that not all entrepreneurs are starting a traditional business. Artists, nonprofit founders, and community organizers are encouraged to participate, making it a resource for anyone looking to build something new in the Tahoe region.
To ensure resources and events are accessible to a diverse range of participants, Tahoe Inc. includes workshops held entirely in Spanish and offers real-time digital translation in over 40 languages.
The Tahoe Inc. website serves as a regional hub for entrepreneurs, offering a roadmap to business success. Designed to be user-friendly and accessible, the site was developed by our experts here at Peak Digital, with Allison Chapas of Chapas Design and Derrick Martin collaborating on content and design. It is structured around six core pillars:
Accelerate: This section provides information on coworking spaces and office resources to help entrepreneurs establish a formal business presence.
Educate: Here, you'll find a list of schools and universities that offer courses to develop business skills.
Collaborate: Connect to regional economic organizations supporting business growth, including those facilitating funding and compliance across Tahoe's five counties and two states.
Fund: Resources to secure capital and other funding from local banks and credit unions.
Connect: Links to local chambers of commerce, the Tahoe Prosperity Center, and other organizations that help businesses integrate into the Tahoe community.
Scale: Resources for businesses ready to expand and grow, including venture capital firms, angel investors, business accelerators, and economic development agencies.
Tahoe Inc. is always looking for ways to continue to meet the needs of local entrepreneurs. They have plans to expand mentorship opportunities through the Tahoe Inc. platform, and the development of a "Locals for Locals" job board is in the works to help businesses find workers.
